Merzouga activities
Erg Chebbi is the most spectacular sand sea in Morocco, with dunes rising to around 150 metres. From the camp, our team takes you out on camelback, on a quad, on a sandboard or in a 4x4.
In short: the classic Merzouga experience is a camel ride into the dunes at sunset, a night in a desert camp with dinner and Berber music, and the sunrise from the top of a dune. Add quad biking or sandboarding for adrenaline, and a 4x4 tour to meet the nomads and see Khamlia village. All of these can be booked with your stay.
01 · The classic
The most beautiful way to reach the camp. You leave Merzouga at the end of the afternoon, our camel guides walking beside the caravan, and stop on a dune to watch the sunset before arriving at your tent. The next morning, ride back at sunrise.
02 · Adrenaline
Climb and descend the dunes on a quad with one of our guides leading the way. No experience needed: you get a short briefing first, then ride at your own pace. Buggies are also available for those who prefer to sit side by side.
03 · Fun for everyone
Many visitors to Erg Chebbi now consider it a must. Walk up a dune near the camp, strap on a board and slide down the soft sand. Easy for beginners, great fun with children.
04 · Discover the region
A driver takes you around the dunes for a half day or a full day. Meet a nomad family for tea, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia village and discover the landscapes of black desert and dry lakes around Merzouga. A town tour lets you meet the people of the village.
05 · Every evening
After dinner the team gathers around the fire with drums and qraqeb. They play the traditional rhythms of the desert, sing, and invite you to join in. Included in every stay.
Activities FAQ
The ride from Merzouga to the camp is planned to arrive around sunset. Your guide adapts the pace and the route to the group, and you stop on a dune for photos.
Children love the camel ride and sandboarding. For quad biking we recommend a buggy or riding with an adult. Tell us the age of your children and we advise you.
It is better to tell us when you book your stay, especially for quad biking and 4x4 tours in high season. You can also add activities once you are at the camp, depending on availability.
